So here are 5 tips when you find yourself reaching for food when you are not physically hungry, when the cravings take over and you simply MUST have something now!

1. If you find yourself always reaching for food when you’re not hungry, while reaching, pause, ask yourself am I hungry? That could be all it takes to bring you back into the present.

2. A lot of the time you could be thirsty rather than needing food. Slug a large glass of water and see how you feel after five minutes.

3. Sit with your feelings, what emotions are you experiencing when you reach for food, see what comes up for you and let that feeling wash over you.

4. Carry out a brain dump. For five minutes write down everything that’s going around in your head. Get it out on paper so it’s no longer taking up space and cluttering your thoughts.

5.  Journal, what is triggering you to reach for food, what feelings, emotions, situations are you going through and build a picture over time as a pattern will start emerging.

I am Margaret, the owner and founder of Naturally Empowered Health. I coach women who have deep seated issues with stress/binge/compulsive/comfort/boredom or distraction eating, who no longer wish to diet and are striving to gain a healthy respect for food and their body.

Why? Because I have been there, for over 20 years I was an emotional eater which all started at the age of 14 by being bullied at school. It continued in my 20’s when my Dad died, into my 30’s when I took on far too much at work and finally in my 40’s when I got divorced, lost my high powered job, moved out and spiralled into depression.

From being rock bottom, the only way is up. After a while working with a counsellor, I had a choice, to go down the same route and go back to a sales director position or chose another route and follow my passions. I have always been interested and studied what different foods can do to the mind and the body due to my late mum, who died in May 2020, having Lupus since the age of 42. So, I chose a route of training to be a health coach and the obvious path of further study was to coach ladies who were in the same situation I have been. So today I do just that, I empower women to move away from the diet mentality, peel back the layers of their eating issue, analyse their triggers and come together with a personal toolbox that they can use at anytime to deal with triggers, move away from diets for good and have true empowered natural health for their body, mind and soul.
