How to Make Your House Smell Amazing This Fall: 10 Easy Simmer Pot Recipes to Try

Fall is finally here, which means it’s time to embrace all things cosy: oversized sweaters, warm drinks, and the irresistible scent of cinnamon in the air. And while lighting a candle is nice and all, there’s something magical about making your house smell like a fall wonderland with simmer pots. It’s like giving your home a hug that smells like a pumpkin spice dream.

So, how do you make your house smell amazing this fall? Get ready to grab a pot, some water, and a few ingredients from your pantry because we’re diving into the art of simmer pots—aka your new favourite fall home fragrance hack. Bonus: simmer pots are all-natural, budget-friendly, and so simple that even if you’re not the Martha Stewart of homemaking, you’ll totally nail it.

Let’s talk about the how before we get into the fun recipes. Here’s the deal: a simmer pot is basically a stovetop potion where you simmer water and aromatic ingredients, and in return, your house gets filled with the essence of autumn. Think of it as a DIY air freshener—without the chemicals. You can leave it simmering for hours, and it’s safe as long as you keep an eye on the water levels (don’t let it dry out or you’ll burn the pot—trust me, it doesn’t smell as good as it sounds).

Ready to get started? Let’s dive into these 10 simmer pot recipes that will leave your home smelling like fall paradise.

1. Classic Fall Harvest Simmer Pot

This is like fall in a pot. Combine apple slices, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and a couple of orange peels. The apples give it that fresh orchard scent, while the cinnamon and cloves bring warmth and spice. It’s basically the fall equivalent of comfort food for your nose.

Pro tip: Add a splash of vanilla extract to give it a baked apple pie vibe.

2. Pumpkin Spice Latte Simmer Pot

Yes, you read that right—you can make your home smell like your favorite fall drink. Throw in a few cinnamon sticks, a handful of coffee beans (for that coffeehouse feel), and a dash of nutmeg. Toss in a pumpkin slice or two if you’re feeling fancy. It’s basically a PSL for your whole house.

No barista skills required.

3. Citrus & Cinnamon Delight

Looking for something bright but still cozy? Combine orange slices, a cinnamon stick, and a few star anise. The citrus adds freshness, while the spices make it feel like you’re curling up with a warm blanket on a crisp fall morning.

It’s a perfect balance between fresh and cozy—kind of like fall itself.

4. Autumn Woods Simmer Pot

Imagine a walk through the woods with crunchy leaves underfoot. Combine cedarwood (or a few sprigs of pine if you have it), rosemary, and whole cloves. This combo gives off a rich, woodsy aroma, like being in a cozy cabin in the middle of nowhere—without the whole roughing-it part.

5. Warm Vanilla Chai Simmer Pot

If you’re obsessed with chai lattes, this one’s for you. Combine cinnamon sticks, cloves, a couple of slices of fresh ginger, and a splash of vanilla extract. The ginger adds a spicy kick, while the vanilla keeps things sweet and comforting. It’s like having a chai latte on repeat—without the caffeine jitters.

And yes, you can totally sip an actual chai latte while this simmers. I won’t judge.

6. Cranberry Orange Bliss

This one smells like Thanksgiving in a pot. Toss in a handful of fresh cranberries, a sliced orange, and a cinnamon stick. The tartness of the cranberries pairs beautifully with the sweet citrus, making it feel like you’re already prepping for a holiday feast.

You’ll have guests asking for your cranberry sauce recipe when they walk in—just roll with it.

7. Spiced Apple Cider Simmer Pot

There’s nothing more fall than apple cider. To recreate that iconic scent, simmer apple slices, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and a bit of nutmeg. Add a few drops of vanilla extract to enhance the cozy factor.

Pro tip: After a few hours, add a splash of actual apple cider for a stronger scent—it’s like doubling down on fall.

8. Gingerbread Cookie Simmer Pot

Skip the baking and still get the delicious aroma of gingerbread cookies. Simmer cinnamon sticks, ground ginger, a couple of whole cloves, and a dash of molasses if you have it on hand. It’s sweet, spicy, and smells like you’ve been slaving away in the kitchen all day.

No cookie sheet required!

9. Spiced Pear & Vanilla Simmer Pot

For something a little different but equally autumnal, simmer pear slices, cinnamon sticks, a splash of vanilla extract, and a few whole cloves. The pear adds a subtle sweetness that’s less intense than apple but still fall-worthy.

It’s a low-key fall fragrance—think of it as the perfect background scent for a lazy Sunday.

10. Cinnamon & Bay Leaf Simmer Pot

Last but not least, this simple but powerful combination will leave your home smelling amazing. Toss in a couple of cinnamon sticks, a few bay leaves, and a handful of whole cloves. The bay leaf adds an earthy, slightly herbal scent that pairs perfectly with the sweetness of cinnamon.

This one’s ideal if you like to keep it classic without getting too fruity.

How to Make a Simmer Pot:

Fill a small pot about halfway with water.

Add your ingredients (the fun part).

Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer on low.

Add more water as needed (you don’t want your masterpiece to burn).

These simmer pot recipes are so simple, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start sooner. Plus, they’re completely customizable—feel free to experiment with your favorite fall ingredients, and trust your nose. The best part? You can impress friends and family with how amazing your house smells, and they’ll think you’ve been baking or crafting seasonal magic all day.

So go ahead, pick a recipe (or two!), throw on your favorite flannel, and get that stove simmering. Fall never smelled so good!

P.S. Just don’t blame me if you suddenly crave a pumpkin spice latte while your house smells like a fall wonderland.

The post How to Make Your House Smell Amazing This Fall: 10 Easy Simmer Pot Recipes to Try first appeared on MUMFORCE.

Strengthen Your Immune System: 4 Tips and 4 Must-Have Products for Mums This January

As a mum, maintaining a strong immune system is crucial, especially during the winter months when colds and flu are more prevalent. The demands of parenting can take a toll on your health, making it essential to prioritise immune health. In this article, we’ll explore four practical tips to boost your immune system and introduce four effective products to help shield you from illness this January.

Tips To Strengthen Your Immune System Now

Prioritise a Nutrient-Rich Diet:

Start with the foundation of good health – your diet. Consuming a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins provides essential vitamins and minerals that support your immune system. Key nutrients include vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, and antioxidants. Incorporate immune-boosting foods such as citrus fruits, leafy greens, and nuts into your meals to ensure a well-rounded and nourishing diet.

Hydrate for Optimal Wellness:

Proper hydration is often overlooked but plays a vital role in supporting your immune system. Water helps flush toxins from your body and keeps your organs functioning optimally. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water a day and consider herbal teas for added benefits. Hydration is a simple yet effective way to enhance your body’s natural defence mechanisms.

Prioritise Quality Sleep:

Amidst the chaos of parenting, it’s easy to neglect your sleep, but it’s a cornerstone of a robust immune system. Lack of sleep can compromise your body’s ability to fight off infections. Establish a consistent sleep routine, create a relaxing bedtime environment, and aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. Adequate rest is a powerful ally in boosting your immune resilience.

Regular Exercise for Immune Resilience:

Physical activity contributes to overall well-being and can enhance your immune function. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a home workout, or a fitness class, staying active supports your immune system, reduces stress, and promotes a healthy lifestyle.

Tips To Strengthen Your Immune System Now

Must-Have Products for January Immune Support:

Vitamin C Supplements:

Look for high-quality vitamin C supplements to boost your immune system.

ZOOKI VITAMIN C -Get Here

Probiotics for Gut Health:

Maintain a healthy gut with probiotic supplements.

Get it here – OPTIBAC PROBIOTIC

Vitamin D3 Supplements:

In winter, when sunlight exposure is limited, vitamin D becomes crucial.

Get it here – NUTRTION GEEKS VITAMIN D3

Elderberry Syrup:

Known for its immune-boosting properties, elderberry syrup is a tasty and natural option.

Get it here – SAMBUCOL

Tips To Strengthen Your Immune System Now

This January, empower yourself with these practical tips and immune-boosting products to fortify your defences against common illnesses.

Wild Deodorant Review

I recently tried Wild UK’s refillable deodorant bundles and I must say, I’m impressed! The deodorants are cruelty-free, vegan, and free from aluminium, which is great for people who are conscious about the environment and animal welfare. The deodorants come in a variety of natural combinations, including the limited edition Pumpkin Spice & Vanilla Starter Pack, which I found to be a delightful scent. The deodorant case is stylish and reusable, which is a plus for people who want to reduce their waste. The deodorant itself is smooth and creamy, and it lasts all day long. I also appreciate that they offer a sensitive range for people with sensitive skin.

Wild UK’s ethos is centred around sustainability and reducing waste. They believe that millions of bathroom products are thrown away every year, and the sustainable and natural alternatives out there don’t cut it. That’s why they’ve created high-performing products made from natural ingredients that never compromise on convenience or efficacy. Their refillable deodorant applicator and shower gel case are made from aluminium and will last you a lifetime. You can refill your cases again and again with their bamboo pulp refills, which they’ll deliver straight to your door. Every time you refill your case, you’ll save over 30 grams of plastic going to landfill. They’ve diverted 80 tonnes of throwaway deodorants from landfill and planted 445,994 trees so far 1.

One of the best things about Wild UK’s deodorant bundles is that you can build your own bundle starting from £6 per refill.

5 Easy Steps for Busy Mums: Embracing a Slow-Paced Life

In our fast-paced world, finding moments of peace and calm can feel like a distant dream, especially for busy moms juggling multiple roles. However, integrating small changes into your daily routine can make a big difference. Here are five simple steps that can help you embrace a slower, more mindful lifestyle, even in the midst of chaos.

Step 1: Prioritise ‘Me Time’

Carve out at least 15 minutes a day for yourself. Whether it’s savouring a hot cup of coffee in silence or indulging in a short meditation session, this time is crucial for rejuvenating your mind and body.

Step 2: Create a Realistic Schedule

Organise your day by setting achievable tasks. Don’t overwhelm yourself with an extensive to-do list. Setting realistic goals will help you manage your time efficiently and prevent unnecessary stress.

Free Downloadable Planner Download

Step 3: Connect with Nature

Spend quality time outdoors, even if it’s just a short walk in the park with your little ones. Breathing in fresh air and immersing yourself in nature’s beauty can do wonders for your well-being.

Step 4: Simplify Your Space

Declutter your living space to create a calming environment. Get rid of unnecessary items and organise your home in a way that promotes relaxation and fosters a sense of tranquillity.

Step 5: Practice Mindful Parenting

Be present in every moment with your children. Engage in meaningful conversations, share laughter, and create lasting memories. Cherishing these special moments can bring immense joy and fulfilment to your journey as a parent.

By incorporating these simple yet effective steps into your daily routine, you can create a more balanced and fulfilling life. Remember, small changes can lead to significant transformations. Embrace the journey towards a slower and more intentional lifestyle, one step at a time.

In the whirlwind of responsibilities, it’s crucial for parents, especially mothers, to find solace in the simplicity of a slow-paced life. By prioritising self-care, organising schedules, connecting with nature, simplifying living spaces, and practicing mindful parenting, you can create a nurturing environment for yourself and your family.

Remember, it’s not about making drastic changes overnight, but rather about incorporating small, manageable steps that gradually lead to a more fulfilling and balanced lifestyle. Embrace the beauty of the present moment, relish the joy in the little things, and savour each precious memory with your loved ones. Here’s to a life filled with tranquillity, love, and cherished moments.

The post Embracing a Slow-Paced Life first appeared on MUMFORCE.

Is Your Child Suffering from Screen-Time Addiction?

How to Set Your Boundaries as a Parent

When we think of addiction we usually only think of alcohol and drugs, but there are many other kinds of addictive behaviours that people use, including screen time addiction. Most people’s perception of internet addiction is that it’s no big deal – and our society agrees! In fact, many parents will question whether screen time addiction is really even “a thing”. Spending a lot of time gaming or on their phones iswhat children do, right?

Just like any other addiction, internet and screen time addiction aren’t really about the internet. Rather, it’s about what’s going on underneath on an emotional level that a child or an adult may be trying to stuff down, which leads to further problems later down the road. One of the analogies I like to use is a child’s jack-in-the-box toy. Imagine we’re stuffing our feelings down, stuffing them down and stuffing them down, then quickly putting the lid on it. You feel relieved, thinkingit’s all under control – but then when you least expect it, up it comes to the surface all at once!

Unfortunately, for many children, Covid-19 has accelerated their screen time use due to home learning when schools were closed, taking away their previous time of in-person interaction.

With increased use of screen time, children are now not as social as they used to be with each other which is creating a problem in our society, especially for those who are more shy or introverted. It’s easier for these children to be social on the internet than in person, easier for them to have chats and communicate with others via online gaming and other social media. They don’t even have to get dressed and go out to meet anyone, so normal and healthy social skill development is impaired and delayed with increased use of screen time.

Is Your Child Suffering from Screen-Time Addiction ?

An internet addiction can manifest in a variety of ways, such as gaming, being glued to social media, excessive online shopping, or watching porn. As a parent, here are some warning signs that your child may have become addicted to the internet:- Spending increasing time alone while accessing screen time- Decreased interest in being with other family members- Not maintaining friendships that used to matter to them- Over-eating or under-eating- Increasingly poor hygiene- Interrupted sleep patterns- Skipping out on schoolwork assignments in order to stay online- Feelings of depression and/or anxiety when they are unable to engage in screen time

So, what can you do if you think your child is suffering from too much screen time?

Photo by Julia M Cameron on Pexels.com

#1 – See the Reality of Your Situation

It’s very important to see the reality of what’s happening with your child, instead of minimizing or making excuses. When we downplay a problem, it generally becomes bigger until it is resolved. With addiction of any kind, this is definitely true. Over time, addiction rarely goes away by itself – it usually gets worse and worse until we get the help we need to put a stop to it. The best thing to do for the addict you love is to come out of any denial you may be in and see this as the problem it truly is.

#2 – Set Boundaries

Communicate clear times throughout the day that screen time is allowed, setting a limit on the amount of time your child can spend on their phone, laptop, games etc. Of course, if you’re still home-schooling, screen time will be higher than normal, but as schools re-open, this should become easier to manage.

The important thing is that you have a clear balance between their online life and their offline life, as well as what the time balance is between school screen time and free time that they can spend online if they wish. You can help your child learn to differentiate the two by setting your boundaries clearly and maintaining these, especially if your child resists or tries to push back on them. Keep in mind that you are setting these boundaries for your child’s own good, because you love them and care about their welfare – not because you are trying to control or punish them.

Is Your Child Suffering from Screen-Time Addiction ?

Photo by Julia M Cameron on Pexels.com

#3 – Develop Your Compassion

Have compassion for yourself as a parent and also for your child. It’s been a tough time for everyone recently and it’s important to remember that everybody has coped differently — and some people may have fallen into addictive tendencies.

DROP-OFF MELT DOWNS? HOW TO HANDLE DIFFICULT SCHOOL DROP-OFFS.

I assumed it was an excellent idea at the time: I signed my 4-year-old up for some summer classes at the preschool. He’d get to explore the establish some friendships and get used to returning to nursery after the holidays. He liked the idea, too: He was excited to get out his bag, and I encouraged him to stick nametags on his water bottle and shoes just like his big sister.

The first drop-off was a breeze. Cassius waltzed right in and barely waved goodbye to me, running over to a table full of cars. I bounded away, a sceptic of how easily the goodbye had gone.

At pickup, a pleasant three hours later, his teachers reported to me that he turned around to look for me and realised I was nowhere to be seen. That meant on-the-spot tears that lasted for the rest of the session until I came to collect him. I was actually annoyed they hadn’t called me, I had to think of him upset for that long.

DROP-OFF MELT DOWNS? HOW TO HANDL DROP-OFF MELT DOWNS? HOW TO HANDLE DIFFICULT SCHOOL DROP-OFFS

That night, when we chatted about his day, he seemed delighted—if a bit worried—to go back. The following day, we walked happily to the building. Cassius soon became heartbroken once we stepped up to the door. As he squealed, sobbed and stuck to me with all his force. I attempted to stay upbeat as I unrolled his fingers from my legs and gave him to his lively teachers. Inside, my heart was breaking. I don’t really remember the walk home— my mind was full of guilt and worry.

You’ve presumably figured that the culprit behind those tricky drop-offs is separation anxiety—it’s absolutely standard and very common. But those high emotions welling up can appear in everything from clinginess to tears to full-on outbursts, which can be distressing, no matter how “typical” it is.

The kicker is validating your child’s emotions, scattering any fears—and maintaining your own concerns, as well.

Maternal wellness expert and licensed therapist Marcella Kelson, LMSW, MSc, about making drop-off easier for everyone involved. Here’s what she shared.

DROP-OFF MELT DOWNS? HOW TO HANDLE DIFFICULT SCHOOL DROP-OFFS

Talk about what’s going to happen—and act it out.

Sometimes, anxiety can stem from just not knowing what to expect. “My number one recommendation is to expose your child to elements of their new routine ahead of time,” shares Kelson. “If your child is going to a new school, try doing a run-through of a typical school morning as close to the actual timing as possible. Simply driving or walking by the entrance and showing them the door they’ll be going through, and generally communicating about their day can help your child feel less overwhelmed by new information.” You can even act out the drop-off routine with your kiddo’s toys or dolls, acting out how they’ll feel and what you’ll say—this can help them ensure their concerns are heard, and you can work through any fears together.

Make sure everyone is well-rested.

There’s no doubt that good sleep hygiene is essential for kids undergoing significant changes—but the same goes for parents, too. “Take care of your energy and your own anxiety as much as possible,” says Kelson. “It’s easier said than done, but the better rested, more emotionally prepared you feel, the easier it will be for you to be present, confident and sturdy through your child’s transition.” Carve out plenty of time in the mornings to get yourself ready, have a cup of coffee and centre yourself for the day ahead, so you’re in your best mindset for any problematic departures.

Set a goodbye ritual.

Get buy-in from your kid by having them help you create a goodbye ritual—the steps you’ll take when it’s time to part ways at drop-off. I helped my son hang up his backpack and set out his water bottle, then I gave him a big hug, and we did the secret handshake that we had practised at home. He looked forward to it each morning—it was a special ritual that only the two of us shared.

Offer a comfort object.

My son isn’t super attached to any specific lovies or stuffed animals, but he did select one to carry with him to camp each day and hold onto when he wanted to be reminded of home. He loved making a tiny collar for his stuffed puffin with his (and Pongo’s) name on it.

Get there early.

Making a point to arrive early to the drop-off line relieves some of the external stress and pressure parents might feel if they’re already frazzled by morning traffic and running late for their following obligation. “Limit as much stress as possible from other sources. Your energy will lead a lot of the experience—[your child] is looking to you to confirm that they’re safe,” says Kelson.

Get there early for pickup, too.

Being one of the first faces your kiddo sees once it’s time to go home can really help solidify their sense of safety, too. Make a point of getting to your child’s daycare or school at least 10 minutes before they’re released so you know you’ll get a spot right upfront and can be there waiting with open arms. Parents can use this time too as a chance to read a few pages or listen to a favourite podcast or song—why not treat it as self-care?

DROP-OFF MELT DOWNS? HOW TO HANDLE DIFFICULT SCHOOL DROP-OFFS

Make it quick.

I made this rookie mistake on my son’s second day of camp—I stayed way too long trying to console him. “Having worked in a nursery school, I can tell you that the lingering [at drop-off] usually escalates the upset for the child. Very generally speaking, the longer the parent lingers when the child is upset, the harder it is for the child to transition out of the upset,” Kelson tells me. Here’s where your goodbye ritual can really come in handy—for both of you. You’ll have a pre-agreed outline of what to do, and your child will (ideally) understand when it’s over, it’s time for you to leave.

Stay upbeat.

Sometimes our kids can pick up on our underlying anxieties about leaving them at school or worrying how they’ll fare without us around to help. The kernel here to keep in mind is that they’ll carry that through if you project confidence and positivity into their school experience. You’re giving your child ‘confidence by proxy’, says Kelson.

“I think big picture thinking is helpful in moments like this. Life is full of difficult moments, and learning how to separate is hard. Still, these are challenges we have to face as children to develop resilience. I’m not saying to deny your child’s emotional experience or even to minimise it. Still, I am suggesting to expect it to be challenging and not assume that challenging equals problem or trauma,” she adds.

Yes, this experience may be challenging—but the simple fact that it’s hard isn’t a negative. Hard is OK. “If we are internally debating whether the separation process is detrimental to our child and wondering if our child can navigate that—we’re not giving them the authentic opportunity to try.”

DROP-OFF MELT DOWNS?

HOW TO WRITE A GRATITUDE LIST

WHAT IS A GRATITUDE LIST?

A gratitude list is a daily or weekly way to document the reasons you have to be grateful. Gratitude unlocks so many benefits in our livesand keeping a list of the reasons you are thankful is an easy way to gain these benefits.

A gratitude list is often kept in the form of a gratitude journal, in a personal notebook, or even logged in your phone. There are endless gratitude journals with unique prompts and formats, but you can also utilize the notes section of your phone. In fact, Oprah talks about how she keeps an electronic list, and often references her running list.

HOW TO WRITE A GRATITUDE LIST IN 3 EASY STEPS

Writing a Gratitude List is an extremely simple process, and no matter your age, a gratitude list is a practice that you can incorporate into your life. We want to share a step-by-step gratitude list guide with you as you create your own gratitude list! Here is how to write a gratitude list in 3 easy steps:

Gather your materials: If you are investing in a gratitude journal, you can pick one that is a good fit for yourself. Some journals have writing prompts only, while others have journaling opportunities, creative spaces for drawing, or quotes to reflect on. They are all unique, so make sure you pick one that is a good fit for you! If you are just using your phone, open up the Notes app, and if you prefer a plain notebook, that will work, too! We have found it helps to have a nice, inky pen and an aesthetically pleasing journal, but find what works for you!

Set some goals: Think about a time of day that will best fit your schedule to add to your gratitude list. If it is first thing in the morning or last thing at night, keep your journal or notebook by your bedside.

Keep it consistent: There is no right or wrong way to keep your gratitude list. Your list can be as deep or as simple as you would like! The important thing is to be consistent. It may not fit in your schedule or life to add to your gratitude list every day, but strive to at least add to it weekly.

WHAT TO PUT ON YOUR GRATITUDE LIST

One of the most common prompts for a gratitude list is “I am grateful for ____, because ___.” This format not only helps us identify what we are grateful for, but it encourages us to dig deeper. It is incredibly beneficial to identify our blessings, but being able to understand why we are thankful for them or what we appreciate most about them takes us to the next level of gratitude.

There is no right or wrong thing to add to your gratitude list, so long as it comes from your heart. We want to share 100 sparks of inspiration for your gratitude list to help you think about the many things in life you have to be grateful for as you create your list.

SAMPLE GRATITUDE LIST WITH 100 SPARKS OF INSPIRATION

We want to share 100 sparks of inspiration with you as you consider all you have to be grateful for, and encourage you in your gratitude journey! By doing this, research shows we are more compassionate and empathetic towards others. Gratitude also helps us have fewer negative emotions. Research shows that people who have a gratitude practice are less aggressive, less stressed, and less depressed. This means less suicidal tendencies and self-harm as well.

A gratitude list also has social benefits as well! It improves our friendships and our relationships, as gratitude improves the quality of the relationships. Also, due to the emotional benefits we receive from it, we are perceived as kinder, more joyful, and trustworthy to others, which strengthens the relationships.

Gratitude lists also encourage physical benefits. Studies have associated a gratitude practice with better sleep, which promotes overall health. The studies found that when we practice gratitude, we are able to fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and are less tired throughout the day. This is likely because the impact of stress on our sleep schedule, and gratitude helps us lower our stress anxiety.

More grateful people also have healthy tendencies. Because gratitude is directly correlated with our personal happiness, studies have found that grateful and happy people are more likely to take care of their overall health, such as exercising and eating well.

Gratitude is everywhere, and in everything.
