How did you balance being a mother and professional?
I plan my days, organisation is so important when you run a business. Being a mother, you can’t be perfect so there’s never organisation because you don’t know what your child’s going to do next. It is important to have structure and that’s how I balance being a mother and a business woman.
What have you sacrificed (both personally and professionally) at each stage of your career?
When it comes to what I’ve sacrificed personally it’s time with my son, running a business means you have to do so much. It’s not a lot but every minute with him matters to me. I don’t think I’ve sacrificed anything professionally at this stage yet.
Who inspired you and why?
My son is my biggest inspiration, when I fell pregnant I had this feeling inside that I had to do and work 100 times harder than I currently was.
What advice would you give to young women who want to succeed in the workplace?
I would say go over and beyond, think outside of the box. If there is something you want to do, research it and make sure you smash it.
Do you think women feel intimidated in business?
I think women do feel it intimidated as the business world is full of men. I think as a woman you have to not think too much about what other think all the time. The more you think about how people feel about you as a woman, the more distracted you will be from the future your destined for.
Where will we find you on a Saturday morning at 10 a.m.?
Saturday morning at 10am, I will be in the living room, playing and relaxing with my son. I try not to work too much on the weekend and spend as much time with him as possible.
What do you love about your job?
I love that I’m my own boss. I make the rules and when I want to start working and stop, which is never.
What’s the best career decision you’ve ever made?
The best career decision is taking the risk, to start a business. I have said for years, that I wanted to start a business of some kind and never did. It’s funny that having a child and being in the midst of a pandemic is when I decided to start.
What’s the worst career decision you’ve ever made?
The worst is working at jobs, I knew I didn’t feel happy at. It’s so important to be in an environment where you can learn, grow and experience something new.
How do you organise your time?
I have a calendar on my iPhone, iPad, diary and MacBook Pro. I organise everything, from the business Instagram posts to the taking time out to relax and chill.
What do you think is your greatest strength?
God is my greatest strength.
What do you think is your greatest weakness?
I don’t think it’s anything major but I find it hard to ask people for help, whether it’s friends, family or business. I just never want to disturb anyone as we are all going through life in different ways.
How do you make decisions?
I always make sure my mind is clear and I also pray and ask for direction in any decisions I want to make.
What do you read?
I read different scriptures of the bible, I also read different books on growth and business.
What do you think are the secrets behind getting to where you’ve got to?
I believe in God and I have been through a lot, that one day I will share. God has really got me to where I am today.
